Pick-Me-Ups of the Week #2

Ah Blogworld, we meet again.

Welcome to Pick-Me-Ups. I'm excited to share this with you this week because this week has been pretty damn long and terrible.  Let me just start off by saying - I'm really sorry - usually I try to be more happy and positive but man am I bummed out today. But, even though the world pretty much seems like a black and white movie with a man playing blues on the saxophone, I think you (yes, you) are going to make me feel better.

You see, it's a circle - I share things that hopefully make you smile, and when I see you smile, I smile!! (OK, maybe not a circle, more like a line, there's a back and forth kinda thing going on here).

So, whoever you are, reading this right now - you need a pick me up? I got you. I hope this makes you smile - and hopefully, you can make other people smile too.

Let the vicious cycle begin!

I like this photo for two reasons. A, it was taken in paradise. Welcome to the Pamalican Island in the Philippines. The island is a dream - with white, warm sand running through your toes, and turtles swimming in the sapphire-tinted ocean... I could not get enough, I could not stop breathing in the warm air and feel the breeze while I dived into the depths of the oceans collecting deep blue starfishes and funny-looking sea cucumbers. I got to live the dream. B, this photo is my favourite because it has my two siblings in it. Megan, my newest best friend - it took a while to find out that we actually could get along and could actually make each other laugh. She'll be here through it all, and I will be there through it all. Nathan - my shiny light in this big, dark world. Nathan is better than me in every way - brave, kind and caring... I can't believe he's going to Blair. My baby brother has become the big brother and showed me how lovely and brave he can be.

So if this picture leads you to think of your sibling - good. Siblings can be your number one Pick-Me-Up. They know just how to tease you, how to make you feel better because they know you so well. So - call up your bro or your sis - and I promise, I promise, I promise - they'll pick you up in an instant - even if you're not in the most beautiful place in the world.

Here is my quote -

"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your
knees
For a hundred miles through the
desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal
of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on."

-- Mary Oliver, Wild Geese

I don't think I'll analyse this one. I think you can interpret this any way you want - and any way you think - is right. You do you - you protect yourself and take care of yourself. I'll be here to listen though.

Here's a little piece of advice. Be honest - be honest with yourself, with your mom, with your dad, with your brother, your sister, your boyfriend, your girlfriend, or anyone who is important to you. Things are so much easier to take on if you can tell someone who values you what is worrying you. Honesty can be as easy as admittance. Admittance that sometimes you can't take on everything on your own. Things are too hard to face by yourself.

Be honest with how things are going, what's weighing your mind and feel the burden be lifted. To the people I love and care about - cash in your token of worry and transfer those fears, worries, doubts and burdens onto me. Let's share the weight together.

You're never alone.
