Pick-Me-Ups of the Week #11

GOOOOOD AFTERNOON BLOGWORLD!!!!

You would not guess where I am right now. I am currently sitting on the balcony of a beautiful house in Beverly Hills, cross legged, soaking in this warm sun. Imma namaSTAY am I right, yoga hipster ladies?!? There's a lemon tree (with HUGE lemons bajEESUS) and I don't have to worry about a thick, black winter coat - just shorts and sunglasses.

LA is beautiful. It really is, with the rolling hills, the palm trees and all the weed in the air (lol). I've never smoked so I still always freak out when I smell weed. I'll be the friend in LA that hits you profusely saying: "THAT'S WEED IT SMELLS LIKE WEED?!?!" Honestly, sometimes it is still hard for me to tell the difference between weed and skunk sometimes, and when I do, it's a big accomplishment.

I realized I haven't really done a Pick-Me-Up in a while, and since my life is turning around, I decided that I would today. Welcome to Pick-Me-Up #11!!! WOOHOO!! YAY!!

A photo -

Man, I love LA. Okay, so I know that this picture right here may seem a bit basic (I totally agree), but when Priscilla took me around to take pictures and look at the murals, I was not super excited about doing so. I've been feeling super unconfident these past few weeks, but Priscilla was insistent that she'd take cute photos of me, as she always says: "I should get metals for being able to take such good photos". She's right though.

I like this photo a lot because Priscilla reminded me of who I am. I didn't need to try with her, I felt beautiful just making silly faces, being my embarrassed self in front of these pair of beautiful wings. I know this is going to be cheesy, but I think everyone has a pair of wings. We all have the ability to fly like angels and soar through the night sky, blessing others with our luminous presence. I think sometimes we forget that we have these pairs of elegant, soft, angel-like wings. We somtimes forget that we are angels of part of an undefeated army, and we look to the demons that plague this Earth instead. I think these murals are acts of secret angels amongst us. I think they try to make the world beautiful again, instead of always being able to only see grey, concrete walls. I wish more parts of the world were like Melrose, where graffiti can be celebrated and colors spark all across the walls of the dull highway and angry drivers.

Whether you are a secret tagger, a painter, a businessman (or woman - FEMINISIM WOO!), or even just a student in college laying low for a little bit, I hope you know you can always fill this world with your colors. Colorful or not - it is all beautiful and unique. Every splatter of paint in your life, or any dash of experiences that color in your life - they are all what makes a grand masterpiece. A masterpiece that is you. Without dull colors, how would we appreciate the vibrant ones? I hope you remember that you have these beautiful pairs of wings just hiding behind your back, dusty, ready to be used. Fly baby.

A quote -

I use this app called YouVersion, and it's the Bible app. What's cool about this app though is that you can do these daily plans. These things change my life. It's simple and doesn't really take that much time (not that this should matter of course) but you can pick a topic, or something that you think is applicable to your life (normally they all are tbh), and read scripture and devotions on the daily.

Today, I read one that I think the whole world needs to know - it's absolutely beautiful -

"“Life is like a piano: the white keys represent happiness, the black keys show sadness. But as you go through life’s journey, remember that the black keys make music too…”

All of life works together to create the masterpiece that each of us are so brilliantly offered every single day.

The good and the bad in life...both help people to appreciate different facets of life and to live the best life they possibly can.

You can’t only take the good in life and reject the bad because both are tremendous shaping tools to help you live a completely full life…one is the sandpaper of life and the other is the buffer to make it brilliantly shine…both have the powerful ability to refine you. Without BOTH, the melody of life is incomplete…the song isn’t as powerfully sung or played.

When we reject the bad in life, and resent our circumstances, we ultimately reject a higher purpose for our life that can be used to help others. When we attempt to get through a trying time in high speed, we miss out on some life’s most amazing lessons…lessons that can change you. Lessons that can give you a depth you didn’t realize you had. Lessons that can catapult you to a new level of greatness you didn’t even know you had in you to reach.

Lessons during loss, trauma, and disappointments are never fun. They're uncomfortable, often very devastating, and extremely self-revealing.

Not everybody has the opportunity to find out exactly what they’re made of. We all think we know what we believe, think, and understand about God, relationships, and life...but loss tests everything in life to a great level: your relationship (and loyalty) to God, family, and others…as well as all previously held thoughts, beliefs, and feelings about many topics. Loss has the potential to forever change a person...for the better or worse.

Think of the song your life is playing. It most likely is a rich combination of both black and white keys.

The flats and sharps (black keys) are the notes in life that threaten and attempt to discourage you, pierce you, and make you ineffective in living life to the fullest.
The white keys are the notes that encourage you and show you just how incredible and amazing life is and how great life can be.

You may not have the ability to choose what keys are playing right now…you may have many black keys that are bringing intense pain. Realize this though: every key that is playing in your life melody today has incredible value. You need both.

Allow the song and the notes of your life to play. Embrace all that is going on in your life. The songs in life always change because life is just one incredible morphing of notes that are there to teach you to enjoy, appreciate, and learn about every facet of life.

There is so much good in life. We all are so blessed…even on our worst days."

I hope that inspired you as much as it inspired me.

Take your time to breathe. Take time to pick a book, take it to the beach and read. Take time to pause, look up at the stars, and smile. Take time to smell the lemons on the tree, and to take in the palm trees. Take in the feeling of the whipping wind, every smell you encounter, every bite you take. Take in every nifty, knit-picky, microscopic detail of this vass globe. It's okay if you aren't fully healed. We all carry a bit of our scars and hurt no matter where we go around the world. We all carry our burdents and sadness from our past throughout our entire time alive on this planet. I think we have to be accepting of them, instead of trying to bury them to rid our pains - we should accept sadness, because It's the most courageous thing you can do. I applaud you for doing so, I know you're going to be able to pick yourself up one day. :)

I love you.

You're never alone, friend.
